ABOUT DDRI

DDRI is located in Moon Township, PA (near Pittsburgh International Airport).

We are a non-profit group that functions solely on donations, fundraising efforts and volunteers.   Our 501(c)(3) nonprofit status is pending.

Funds are used to offset the costs of rescuing and re-homing the Dobermans that enter our rescue.  There are various costs involved with each Doberman that is rescued.  Some of these costs include shelter fees, veterinary care, medications and equipment.

We do not have any paid employees.  Our organization is run solely by volunteers who devote their time and energy because of their love for this majestic breed.  We do this in addition to having families, jobs and dogs of our own.  Our only reward is knowing we have helped a Doberman in need.

DDRI receives Dobermans from shelters as well as owners.  These owners can no longer keep their Dobermans for reasons such as divorce, death, relocation, illness, lack of time or landlord conflicts.  Some rescued Dobermans come into rescue in poor health or suffering from the affects of neglect and/or abuse. 

Our rescued Dobermans each receive a vet exam, necessary vaccines and medicines, a heart worm test (heart worm treatment if found to be positive) and are spayed or neutered.

Each Doberman lives in foster care until placement.  We use this time to learn more about the dog.  This information is helpful when choosing the appropriate adoptive home.  We also use this time to rehabilitate and/or teach basic obedience if needed.

There is a screening process for adoptive homes.  Each potential adopter must complete an adoption application, agree to a home visit and sign an adoption contract.  We also require an adoption fee to help defray costs incurred while the rescued Doberman is in our care.

If we have the space, we will take in Doberman mixes and other breeds.

We feel education is important.  We do attend outings and provide educational materials to the public.  We also provide these materials to our adoptive homes.

Volunteers remain in contact with our adoptive homes for the rescued dog's entire life.  We are always here to provide assistance if needed.
