Sweet Oliver came into our lives because his owners did not want to care for a blind dog. Oliver's owners did not allow him to live in their home. He was limited to the back yard. And, for most of his life they at least made sure he had food, water and proper vet care... well, until he went blind a year ago. Over the last year Oliver lost his vision, eleven pounds, his home and almost his life (his owners thought they had to put him to sleep because he went blind). No one even tried to find out why he lost his vision and so much weight. Isn't that heartbreaking? I do not understand how someone could watch him day after day and do nothing. Oliver truly is THE sweetest dog ever! He is a joy to be around! He greets everyone with a wagging tail and a happy face. He gets along perfectly with his other canine siblings and we are sure he would do fine with cats as well. He is going to need a home that understands blind dogs or that is willing to do some research on blind dogs. Update 8-5-07 Oliver has come so far in such a short time since he arrived at DDRI. He has now mastered the layout of our house and can move room to room by himself. He also has learned the command for going up and down steps. Oliver is gaining weight and looks so much better! He is VERY velcro and just wants to be near his family. This boy doesn't have a mean bone in his body. He just wants love and affection. He really wants to find his forever home... He is also doing very well with his house training. 9-07 Yay~~ Oliver has been adopted!!!! Oliver has been adopted by the most fabulous family! Thank you so much Falkenstiens!! Oliver will never have to worry about spending another night outside and he will certainly never have to worry about being alone! You are an incredible family and we are so happy you choose our Oliver to be your new Dober-boy! Thank you again so very much! More to come as Oliver gets to know his new family!!! |
