We were notified that Lilly needed somewhere safe to go because her owner was getting a divorce and did not want to keep her. We were also told she was having some sort of allergy problem and would need to see a vet. We wrote out a plea and sent it out via email. One of our volunteers offered to foster Lilly, so we agreed to take her in a few days. Two days before she was supposed to come to rescue, Lilly's owner claimed her took her to a local shelter. We contacted every shelter we could think of and no one had Lilly. We did not have a good feeling about this, but held out hope. We faxed her photo and info to every local vet we could find and prayed for her safety. We had a horrible snow storm on Saturday and with that came diminishing hopes - how could any animal survive out in that weather??? On Monday we received a call from the local humane society and they said they had Lilly. We could not believe it!!! It was truly a miracle! Apparently someone found Lilly running loose on Sunday and brought her to the shelter. We made arrangements to pick up Lilly on Tuesday and get her to our vet. After an extensive exam, we discovered Lilly had two horrible ear infections which were left untreated for quite some time. She began scratching her face from the pain and created a secondary skin infection. Her eyes were so swollen we couldn't even see them! Lilly is currently on an antibiotic and a steroid and is doing much better. We can finally see her pretty eyes and she is beginning to play. =) She LOVES toys and tennis balls are her favorite! Lilly's improvement is amazing! She looks a million times better! Her open sores are healing and the swelling in her ears and around her eyes is going down. We are now feeding her a wonderful food by California Natural which will also help get her back to a healthier state. Lilly is one of the sweetest and funniest dogs we have ever met! It has to be her Boxer personality shining through. She is a complete comedian - there is NO way to not smile when you are around her. She is always bringing us her toys and talking to us. We were actually seriously considering keeping sweet Lilly, but one of our children's friends fell in love with her (Lilly fell for him too!) and he wanted his family to meet her. Well, once you look into those sweet eyes there is no turning back! They all fell hard for Miss Lilly and decided they would love to give Lilly a forever home. This family is amazing so how could I deny Lilly or them their '...happily ever after...' ? Lilly is now living with her mommy Judy, daddy Mark, human siblings Erik, Mary and David - and Abby the senior GSD and two bunnies - Peter and Oreo!! She does so well with everyone!! I am beyond happy that Judy and her family opened up their loving home to Lilly. I could not have asked for a better place for her in the world! Lilly's new family understands she is a special needs dog and she will need ongoing care and treatment for her allergy issue. They are committed and only want what is best for sweet Lilly. Rescues like Lilly's really touch your heart because you feel so badly for these poor dogs that are in such horrible condition. Knowing that Lilly was treated so poorly and now is in a home where she will never want for or need anything (including love, safety and security) completely warms my heart! Thank you Judy, Mark and family!
