Jake came to DDR from a rescue in TN. Jake is a beautiful red male with natural ears. He has a wonderful personality and gets along with well with everyone.
Jake was adopted by a wonderful family who live near McKeesport, PA.
7-07 One Year Update:
It has been one year since Jake was adopted. He is a special because he is DDR's first placement.
Here is the update from Jake's family. We are so happy for Jake!
"Hi Sue. Jake is doing great.
He finally knows he has a home with people that love him and he's not going to be moved again. He has finally stopped the nervous biting of the tail and his little stump wags like crazy. The back yard is finally fenced all the way and he loves to go out and run around. The neighbors have a black lab and Jake loves to run back and forth with her. The love sack is his favorite place and when he comes in at night he leaps onto it from about 5 feet away.
We think the biggest sign that he is happy and adjusted is that when he gets scratched, he turns and has us scratch his tail. NO ONE that he doesn't trust is going near that tail! LOL We love Jake dearly and are so happy we have him.
We hope all of your other dogs get a happy loving home."

Jessica
September 2006

|
Jessica came to DDR from an owner who (via a shelter worker) was going to put her to sleep because he had to move in with his mom. Thank goodness he didn't! Jessica was very thin and was missing a lot of hair from a flea infestation. Jessica was so attached to her foster mom that she would whine for quite some time when her foster mom left the house.
Jessica was adopted by a wonderful woman who lives in Pittsburgh, PA. Jessica also has a wonderful new canine sister, Brandy! Brandy and Jessica are now very best friends. Jessica is so happy she is finally "home" and she doesn't whine anymore. She now trusts that her family will always return. DDR would like to thank Jessica's new mom for giving Jessica an absolute perfect home!

Mercury - Deaf
November 2006

|
Mercury is an eight year old boy who came to DDR from his owner. She saved Mercury from having to go to the shelter, but could not keep him herself. Due to a few new life situations, his owner needed to find Mercury a forever home. She contacted DDR and Mercury came to PA - it was very hard for her to say good-bye to him... he is such a special dog... Mercury is deaf. It was our first deaf dog and we had no idea how deeply we would fall for this special boy. Mercury is way more needy than your average already very "needy Doberman" and I think that is why you can't help but love him so much.
Mercury was adopted by a wonderful family who live in Bethel Park, PA. Mercury also has a new sister named Molly (the family's 10 year old Lab). Mercury is doing well. His new family spent a lot of time researching deaf dogs so they can provide the absolute best care possible for Mercury. They are true angels and DDR would like to thank them for giving Mercury his final and forever home.
Mercury also got a new name - Murphy! Here is an update from his mom!
"Our Christmas was wonderful and I hope that yours was, too. Both dogs were terribly spoiled by my nieces on Christmas day. He really is a wonderful dog and gets along great with Molly. We took him to the vet's for a check up and will be taking him back to get his teeth cleaned shortly."

When Harry Met Della
Della came to DDR from kill shelter in GA. She was running out of time, so we decided to bring her to PA. During Della's transport, she met a lovely man named Harry. Harry is the father of Kelly. Kelly is a wonderful woman who devotes her free time to transporting animals. During this particular transport, sweet little Della charmed her way right into Harry's heart.
I received an email from Harry before Della was even across the PA border. He asked if there would be any way for him adopt Della.
Well who am I to stand in the way of fate? So, we did a long distance adoption and arranged a reverse transport.
Della spent the Thanksgiving holiday in PA and then headed back to Chattanooga, TN.
She is now getting settled with her wonderful new family. DDR would like to thank Sandy for coordinating two perfect transports (we know transport coordinating is no easy job!), Keith for doing the home visit and all of the drivers who assisted with Della's cross country travels. Without all of you this would not have been possible.
And, thank you Harry and Donna for welcoming Della into your home.
Della had to have hip replacement surgery not long after she was adopted. We would like to thank the Paulk framily from the bottom of our hearts for taking such excellent care of Miss Della and making sure she received the best care possible.

Deja
December 2006

|
Deja is a 6 month old female Doberman. She was surrendered to DDR by a young couple who found her and could no longer care for her.
Deja very quickly won the hearts of her foster family. Not only is she adorable - she is the sweetest little thing. She loves to cuddle and give millions of kisses!
Deja discovered "life in the fun lane" with her new canine brother Troy and they spent most of their day playing like maniacs!
Deja was adopted by a wonderful woman in Butler, PA, who recently lost her Doberman companion of eleven years.
Thank you Waltraud!

Zoey is a 1-2 year old red Dober-girl who found herself in a drop box at a very high kill shelter in OH - not a very good place to end up! Luckily for Zoey, we rushed over to OH and brought her back the very same day! Poor Zoey did not deserve to spend one more minute in the shelter. She was thin and dirty... and also was a bit reserved. Soon she felt comfortable though and we saw a very kissy Dobergirl who followed her foster mom everywhere.
Zoey was adopted by Shannon who lives in Rochester, NY and is now on our BoD! Zoey has come a long way in her time with new family - her training has not been easy, but Shannon and her fiancee Bryan love Zoey just the same!
Zoey is super dog friendly and loves kids! She loves her human brother and sister, Michael and Madison, so very much!
Thank you Shannon and Bryan for sticking by Zoey through thick and thin - she is such a sweetie!!

Chloe
February 2007

|
Baby Chloe arrived from a shelter in West Virginia.
She is a Beagle/Pit/Jack Russell mix. She is around 14 weeks of age.
Chloe is a typical puppy who loves everyone and loves to play. She especially enjoyed playing with her bigger, canine foster brothers. She was the QUEEN in her foster-castle!
Chloe is a very special little girl who makes you smile every time you look at her.
She was adopted by a wonderful family from Beaver, PA. Chloe is going to have a wonderful, wonderful life!

Blackie
March 2007

|
Meet Mr. Blackie Brown! He is one of the absolute sweetest, happiest Dober-boys we have ever met! His tiny tail never stops wagging and his little bottom never stops wiggling! Nothing brings this happy boy down!
Blackie came to DDR from his owner who was working full time and going to school on top of being a single parent. She had too much on her plate and no time for Blackie. She felt as though Blackie deserved a home where he could spend more time with people and less time alone.
As a puppy, Blackie belonged to someone who crated him a lot. Then, in his last home, he ended up being crated for long periods of time again. When Blackie arrived here, we promised Blackie 'no more crates'.
While in foster care Blackie and his foster brother Troy spent every day playing like maniacs. Blackie also loved playing with his little foster sister Chloe. Nothing but fun, fun, fun all day long!
Blackie has been adopted by a wonderful man named John and his daughter Barbara who live in West Middlesex, PA. Blackie also has a new canine sibling named Lola!
Blackie is charming his way into everyone's heart just as we expected! You can't be around this boy and not love him.
His Dober-brother in foster care is really going to miss him!!
Thank you John and Barbara!

Shy's story is such a sad one. Shy was owned by a someone who decided he no longer wanted to deal with him so he was going to put him to sleep! Yes, you are reading correctly! This man was going to put a beautiful, sweet, 5 month old puppy to sleep!
Luckily the vet clinic where he took the dog said they would find him a great home. And, then they called rescue.
Shy is a little on the shy side. He was probably not properly socialized when he was younger, but we are confident that he will overcome this with lots of exposure to new people and places.
Shy was adopted by Regina who is a technician at our wonderful vet clinic! We are so excited that we will get to see Shy on a regular basis and we will get to see him blossom into a wonderful, adult boy.
Shy has taken a quick liking to his new human, teen aged brother. He sleeps with him each night (under the blankets of course!) and never leaves his side when they are together.
We are so happy for Shy and his new family!

Darby
March 2007

|
Darby is a 5 1/2 year old, cropped/docked, black and rust female Doberman. She came to DDR from a shelter in WV where she ended up because her elderly owner passed away.
Darby came to DDR severely overweight. We immediately had her checked for Hyperthyroidism, which was confirmed by her blood tests. She began taking her meds and we put her on a diet.
Darby has about the most laid back, easy going temperament you can find in a Doberman. She is a very "go with the flow" kind of girl. Not much (actually we didn't see anything) bothers Darby. She is such a good girl!
We had an adoptive home interested in Darby, but they were four hours away in Dover, PA. It took a few weeks of waiting out the weather to be able to take Darby and do a home visit.
Finally we made it to Dover and it was obvious this is where Miss Darby was supposed to be. She is now the "Queen of the Couch" at her new home in Dover with her new mom, dad and three other canine siblings. One of her new canine siblings is a recently adopted Rottie mix named Autumn. Autumn was probably neglected and lacks self-esteem. Since Darby has no confidence issues what-so-ever, we think they will become very good friends and Autumn will be able to gain confidence from Darby and her other two canine companions.
Darby has settled in nicely and we look forward to many happy stories about Darby's new life.
Thank you Kay and Donald!

Reese
Severe Neglect Case
March 2007

|
Reese is a two year old, cropped/docked, black and rust female Doberman. She came to DDR from a shelter in KY. She was a victim of extreme abuse. She was starved and then her owner attempted to hang her. Luckily, she gained footing on a box and that's where she was when animal control arrived.
They cut her down and took her to the shelter when she had to wait 6 weeks while hearings were held against her previous owners.
Finally, she was released into foster care and then came to rescue a week later.
It was obvious Reese was a very sweet girl the second we met her. She was instantly drawn to my 5 year old niece. I could not keep them apart. Reese also loved to curl up in your lap and sleep. She would literally curl up in a ball and sleep in your arms. She is one of the sweetest dogs we have ever met for sure!
Reese was evaluated by a vet in KY and our vet here in PA. It was obvious she had some dental issues that needed to be dealt with. We scheduled her surgery and then asked our wonderful supports for some help financially. Of course, our wonderful friends came through and we raised enough money to cover the cost of Reese's surgery! Thank you all so very much for your help! We could not have done it without you!
Reese was adopted by a fabulous family! Her new mom and dad love her more than words can express. She also gained a canine brother Riley who has since gone to the Rainbow Bridge *Godspeed Riley*... She now has a new baby brother named Murphy who is a a rescued Irish Setter mix and she is definitely his protector!
Reese is truly in a beautiful home with an amzing family. She will never have to worry about being harmed again.
Thank you Michelle and Michael!

Shanti
April 2007

Show Me Your Smile!
Shanti - now Ebony - our first smiling Doberman, was surrendered to DDR by her owner who realized he could not provide her with the life she deserved. He loved her very much, but worked very long hours. It was not fair for her to be alone for such long periods of time.
Ebony was a very sweet dog when she first came to rescue, but she lacked manners and did not seem to know how to behave like a normal dog. She quickly picked up on which behaviors were favorable and which were not. Soon she was thriving in her new environment.
Ebony was adopted by a fabulous man who lives in Morgantown, WV. He fell in love with Ebony the second he met her.
She is the light of his life and Ebony loves her new daddy more than words can express.
Thank you Brian for adopting Ebony and giving her the happy ending she deserves!

Luca
November 2007

|
Luca was dumped in the night drop box in the same shelter in OH as our sweet little Zoey.
Luca was a young boy - not even a year old - and very timid. He soon warmed his way into his foster mom's heart and settled in very nicely. Luca is such a handsome and sweet boy! He now lives in NY.

Sadie
June 2007

|
Sadie was surrendered by her owners because they did not have time for her. She was being crated for 10-12 hours each day and they realized that was simply not fair to Sadie. Sadie is a 5-6 year old Dobergal who has perfect house manners and was such an easy dog to care for! She seemed to prefer female dogs over males and we decided a home where she would be the only dog would be best. We also wanted a home for her where someone would be home with her and she would not have to be alone all day any longer.
Sadie found that perfect home with Lorraine and Dale who live in central PA. They absolutely adore their Sadie Girl and we could not be happier for all of them!

Dexie
June 2007
RIP Dexter - February 2010
|
h
Dexie came to rescue thanks to a very thoughtful woman. Dexie's owner was very ill and could no longer care for him. The owner's family took Dex to a kennel and the owner's care giver made sure Dex got to rescue.
Dexter is a very special boy. He has a huge personality and a heart to match. This big boy won over his foster family immediately.
Dex was very confused and anxious for quite a few days, but eventually began to come around. He slept every night in someone's bed and LOVED his walks.
Dexie was adopted by a wonderful family in Northern New York. His new mom is a dog trainer and they live on a farm with many wonderful animals.
We are so grateful to Dexter's new family. We are always so happy there are families willing to take in the senior dogs.

Joe (Imbedded Collar)
June 2007
|
Joe was in a shelter a few states away and with the help of several people made his way to our rescue.
Joe was pulled out of animal control by a local shelter. They attempted to place him, but most interested parties only wanted a status dog. Joe had an embedded collar when he came into the animal control facility. It is healing, but his new family will need to conscience of his tender neck.
Joe is probably not even a year old, he is all natural with tail and floppy ears and is cute as can be! Joe even has a super-wide cow lick on his neck! Joe is very puppy so we are requiring a basic obedience class. Joe really does want to make make the people around him happy. He would make an excellent therapy dog.
Joe gets along fine with everyone. He even did well when introduced to cats.
We know you will fall in love with Joe the second you meet him because we sure did!
Joe was adopted by an awesome couple who live in Pittsburgh, PA. They have another baby named Tess who is a Shep Mix and three cats.
They love Joe and he is doing well with Tess and the cats.
More to come on Joe as he settles in to his new forever home.
Shannon and Michael - thank you so much for giving Joe a wonderful forever home!

Jolene
June 2007

|
hhh
Jolene came to rescue from another rescuer who picked her up at a swap meet in KY! Poor Jolene was there with a box full of Min Pins. This beautiful girl was not living a good life by any means - she was merely a possession to her owner - something worth a couple of bucks.
Well, we had a BoD member who had been waiting for a dog like Jolene for quite some time. Of course, we know it was God who brought this beautiful little girl to her new mom and thank goodness he did. She could have quickly fallen into the wrong hands at the swap meet.
Jolene was very thin and smelled like, well, something not very pleasant at all. We immediately had Jolene checked out by our wonderful vet, vaccinated, wormed, etc.
Jolene is now with her new mom and her two canine siblings. She is still adjusting to her new life, but we are certain she is happy to finally be "home".
Thank you Hope for giving this sweet girl a wonderful forever home! |

Shyla
Novemeber 2007

|
Shyla is a super-sweet Dobergirl who came to rescue from a NY shelter. She was surrendered to animal control by her original owner who could no longer provide proper care for her and another Dobergirl.
Shyla's friend was adopted from the shelter and then Shyla came to rescue.
Shyla is very well mannered and completely house trained. She does not need to be crated and is friendly with every person she meets. She does well with the other dogs, but is the queen of the pack for sure. She has also lived with cats and birds.
Shyla is a special needs dog because she had a seizure and will need to take medication daily.
11-10-07
Shyla was adopted by one of the nicest people ever - Sue Yates a DDR board member!
Sue is an obedience trainer who lives in Rochester, NY, and is also a very important part of DDR. Sue's daughter Shannon is our sweet Zoey's mommy! And, now Sue has her very owner Dober-girl.
Sue is very excited and looking forward to many years with Shyla.
Shyla was in foster care for a long time and became part of the pack at her foster home. She was loved as much as the resident fur-kids and will be missed - but, we are happy we will get to see Shyla from time to time and of course get updates all the time.
While in foster care, Shyla became very close with Min Min. They were inseparable and the absolute best of friends. Min Min will definitely miss Shyla!
Thank you Sue - it is so kind of you to open up your home to this very special Dober-girl.
She is simply one of a kind.
3-31-08 - Sadly our sweet Shyla passed away today and we are beyond heartbroken. We believe Shyla suffered from DCM and died of sudden death.
We will always and forever treasure the time we had with Shyla. She was so special to so many people and we are better for having had her in our lives.
We'll see you at the bridge sweet Shyla... we love you.

Dewie
July 2007
|

Dewie, now Gunny, came to DDR from a shelter in OH. He is a Rott N Dobe - a Rotti/Dobe mix. The first thing we noticed about him was his eyes - they were so mezmerizing! Dewie is around 2 years old and perfectly mannered.
He was adopted by Bill and Mary in Central PA and they LOVE him! They recently lost their Dober-boy and could not have imagined loving another as much, but Gunny is certainly working his way into their hearts!
Bill had this to say:
"The Boy is doing GREAT! ... He is my buddy and is head over paws in love with my wife. I never thought I could be Blessed twice with such a grateful fellow." - Bill
Thank you so much Bill and Mary for giving Gunny such an incredible home!

Oliver - Special Needs - Blind
September 2007

|
Sweet Oliver came to DDR because his owners did not want to care for a blind dog. They did not allow him in their home and he was limited to the back yard. For most of his life they made sure he had food and water... well, up until about a year ago when he went blind. Over the last year Oliver lost 11 pounds, his vision and almost his life - his owners thought they were going to have to put him to sleep because he went blind! So heartbreaking! I don't understand how someone could watch him day in and day out and do NOTHING. Oliver is blind because he suffered a trauma, but his previous owners claim to be clueless as to why. Oliver is one of the sweetest dogs in the world - totally dog, cat and human friendly. He greets everyone with a wagging tail!
Oliver was adopted by a wonderful family with three children. He absolutely loves the kids and all of the attention they shower him with. Thank you Falkenstiens!!! h

July 2007

JB, now Obi, was surrendered by his family who was having a very hard time. JB was such a good boy and his family asked us for our help with finding JB a new home. He is a 2 1/2 year old Doberman/Chocolate Lab mix. JB has the biggest personality - just huge! We found a wonderful home for JB in Pittsburgh. His new mommy and daddy absolutely love him!

Duchess
October 2007

Duchess came to us from a shelter in TN. We were told she was a Dobie, but once she arrived it was obvious she was a Rott/Dobe mix. Duchess was a handful to train - very determined and hard headed! Luckily she spent time in NY with one of our board members who is an obedience trainer. When she left Duchess was well on her way with her training! Duchess now lives in the suburbs of Pittsburgh with her forever family... |
Addison
August 2007

Ty, Alyssa, Kailee,
Conner and Addie

|
Addison was literally tossed out of a truck on a back road in southern PA. She was completely emaciated and in horrible condition. Luckily two local families decided to care for her until a rescue could be found. Once in rescue she quickly put on weight and we began to see a sweet and amazing little girl come to life.
Addison - now Gia - lives in Rochester, NY, and finally has a normal life where she can just be a sweet, happy furkid!
Thank you Paul for all you have done for Gia - you are her angel for sure!
